Shelby Duis Park

In 2001, Iowa Great Lakes Rotary raised funds to build "Shelby's Playground," a playground honoring the memory of a Spirit Lake girl, Shelby Duis, who died from abuse. The park was specially designed with younger children in mind as Shelby was just 2 years old at the time of her death.

Proceeds from the 2019 Boji Beer Fest went toward renovations and additional playground equipment at Shelby Duis Park, a children's play area located at Elinor Bedell State Park. The Iowa Great Lakes Rotary and PEO Chapter PA, Spirit Lake annually maintain the park by planting flowers, trimming shrubs, pulling weeds and doing general cleanup.

Proceeds from the 2022 Boji Brew Fest will go toward community projects through the Iowa Great Lakes. Previous projects in addition to Shelby's Playground have included a Pavilion at the YMCA Camp Foster, scholarships for local youth, dictionaries for 3rd graders, winter coats for kids, and many other donations to local non-profits.
